Discover | Click | Cherish #02 A Travel Photography Workshop

JAN 6, 2018      3 pm - 6 pm

By Kunal Bhatia and Shuvajit Payne of Rickety Roads

Travel photography is a broad genre encompassing the many different aspects that make each of our travels unique and personal. Some might be interested in photographing people, while others might find monuments to be more alluring. For some, it might be the grandeur of nature's landscapes that beckon, while for others the effort might be worth it only when photographing an endangered animal.

Whatever be your passions and interest, travel photography can be an extremely engaging and rewarding experience; albeit one that comes with its own set of challenges and 'rules' that must be followed, only to be broken.

The workshop is broadly divided into three components:

1. BEFORE YOU GO: From planning when and where to travel, to creating an itinerary that is conducive to photography - a lot can be done in the planning stage.

2. ON THE ROAD: This is the largest chunk of the workshop. We start with certain fundamentals of composition, framing, colour, backgrounds etc. And then do some outdoor exercises to put these into practise. After a quick review of the participants' images, we do a session on how to break the 'rules' that we just followed. We then touch upon a select few advanced concepts - playing with depth of field, multiple exposures etc, just to open everyone's eyes to the many possibilities of travel photography.

3. AFTER YOU ARE BACK: Don't let your clicks just languish on a memory card. Play with them, edit them and most definitely print them - for that's a great way to improve your skill.

All through the workshop, we'll touch upon travel photography hacks: What do you do when things aren't in your control? Too many people? Barely any light? Overcoming shyness and more!

Participants' profile:
The workshop is open to adults of all ages; and it requires no prior experience of photography, since the methods are based more on intuition and experimentation rather than on technical details. The only requirements for the workshop are loads of enthusiasm and bringing along any sort of camera for the practical exercises - even a phone camera will do.

About the mentors:
Kunal Bhatia and Shuvajit Payne are the travel guys behind Rickety Roads. Their travel photography and writings have been widely published in magazines & newspapers, and they believe that travel photography is a great medium to share stories and enrich one's travel experiences. An interactive story-writing and imagination building workshop with Vinitha Ramchandani

In collaboration with Open Bracket

Age Group: 18+
Charges: Rs.354

A story is the most powerful tool of learning for anyone. As someone rightly said, "The world is shaped by two things: stories told and the memories they leave behind." If you are one of those who always wanted to write and did not know where and how to start, this workshop is for you!

What this workshop will do for the participants:
1. The workshop will bring the stories out of each participant and strengthen ways to think creatively and strategically.
2. It will equip the participants with a host of tools and creative methods that can be used very effectively whenever ones chooses to start writing.
3. It will bring you together with people who share the same goal.
4. This course is being conducted by an established writer and editor.

Workshop Structure:
1) What is creative writing and how to tell a story
This session will not only explore each participant’s need from the course, it will also examine what each participant is more aligned towards: short story writing, novel writing or biographies or creative non-fiction. 2) The art and craft of short-story writing
This will cover what is the definition of short story writing, how to structure a short story and tips to make a short story work. At the end of this session participants are given three ingredients that may not necessarily connect with each other and they have to work in groups to create a story with these ingredients. 3) How to bring writing to life
Techniques to make YOUR writing stand out. 4) Giving life to characters
Every story has a protagonist. Some stories have more than one protagonist. This session deals with how to breathe life into characters, to make them real and to make your readers ‘see’ the characters as if they were viewing a film. 5) Writing dialogues
Each of the above sessions will include hands-on exercises and guidance post the exercise.
